Personal Information Management: PIM 2008

CHI 2008 Workshop, April 5-6, 2008, Florence, Italy

Detailed schedule We thank Microsoft and Google for sponsoring a reception.

PLANNED ACTIVITIES AND SCHEDULE

Discussion during the two days of the workshop will follow from a discussion of significant challenges of PIM on Day One to a discussion of promising approaches on Day Two.

Day One - Understanding PIM.

The large group discussion on Day One will focus on the understanding of PIM behavior that is necessary if we are to make significant improvements in PIM.

Day Two - Promising Approaches to PIM.

The large group discussion on Day Two will focus on approaches that show promise in meeting the challenges of PIM. Approaches may encompass aspects of theory, methodology, empirical study, prototype development and teaching or training. The structure for each of the two days is similar:
  • Morning sessions will focus on the presentation of new research. Structure will be primarily paper presentations.
  • Afternoon sessions will be designed to encourage discussion through the use of panels and breakout groups.
  • During breaks, posters will support small individual discussions about participants' current research.
The topics and participants for the panels and discussion groups will be constructed by grouping relevant, related submissions. A workshop dinner will be held the evening of Day One, hosted by proceeds from the book Personal Information Management (Jones and Teevan, University of Washington Press, 2007).
